Shalyatantra :
Department of Shalyatantra deals with surgical procedures mentioned in the ancient surgical texts. Shalya word means foreign materials like hairs, nails, metals, pus etc; removal of such things are mentioned in this branch. Acharya Sushruta is the father of surgery. In Shalyatantra different procedures of surgery mentioned in ancient times are included. It is one of the most important branch of Ayurveda mention in Ashtanga Ayurveda. Rakta as a fourth dosha accepted by Acharya Sushruta. Kshar-sutra, Ksharkarma Therapy, Jalokaavcharan (Leech Therapy), Agnikarma, Raktamokshan etc are the peculiarities of Ayurveda are mentioned in this subject.
Different types of instruments and equipment’s needed for surgery are mentioned in this subject. College has well developed Operation Theatre where major and minor procedures are done. Treatment of fistula, haemorrhoids and fissure are effectively practiced in hospital. Department has charts, models and departmental library.
